It’s All Greek to Me

Hi everyone!
Since I’ve been so bad lately about posting, I’ve made a conscious effort to get some outfit posts lined up lately, and I’ve already got another waiting after this one!
Today’s outfit comes from one of my favorite events of all time, a wedding!

I wore this outfit to my friend Jessica’s wedding–it was at a vineyard, and literary themed, and absolutely gorgeous! The weather was perfect and there was no wind (a miracle in Oklahoma), and it was overall the most lovely day for a wedding you could imagine. I am so happy for Jess and her new husband!

I wanted to go with something comfortable but still pretty, and I thought this was a fun, easy dress that suited an outdoor wedding. I loved the almost minty green color and also the Grecian elements to this dress and at $6.50 I couldn’t believe how cheap it was. It was actually a few sizes too big, but it came with the lovely gold belt and I was able to drape it so that you didn’t really notice it too much. This dress was also flowy and easy to dance in, and let me tell you I danced my butt off and had the best time!
I added my go-to nice occasion shoes (since they’re the only ones I can wear comfortably for a long time haha), my trusty leather braided headband, and my gorgeous gold clip earrings my best friend Skye got me for Christmas. I also was wearing a gold bracelet I got from my mom but I kept banging it into stuff so I took it off before this picture and forgot to put it back on for it :/
I really liked mixing the neutral, more earthy elements of the tan wedges and the leather headband with the more classic elements of the gold braid and flowy pastel green of the dress. I thought it gave it something of a boho goddess feel, and was an interesting change from the usual gold accessories I initially thought to pair it with.
Here’s a pic of me and my dear friends Katie and Lyssa, who I partied with during the wedding. You can also see my earrings and headband a little closer.

As always, I hope you like my outfit as much as I do, and stay tuned for my next outfit post, which should be coming up soon! 🙂

Hello Again, Hello My Friends, Hello

Standard

So.
I have to tell you, Readers, that life has been a little rough on me lately. I’ve been mysteriously sick for almost two months. One of the most horrible, hardest things I’ve ever experienced also happened when my beloved, wonderful cat of sixteen years, Boo, passed away on September 8th (you can read about it on my other blog if you like). Life has seemed pretty bleak, lately, truth to tell.
Finally this Tuesday, I was able to see a specialist, who has prescribed me some medicines that have actually been helping. Of course, the day after I finally started feeling well, I have begun developing some sort of sinus/ upper respiratory infection thing, which has made me miserable. I slept most of the day today after being up all night coughing and sneezing and with a runny nose. But when I finally emerged from my stupor this evening, I was feeling much improved, and so the fam and I decided to go out to dinner at a local Irish pub that I really love. I hadn’t been since May (I actually posted the outfit I wore on here) so I was very excited to go back.
But the thing I was most excited about is that it finally was cold enough today to wear LEGGINGS. If you have followed my blog for awhile, you know I am an enormous fan of wearing leggings, a long, loose shirt, and tall boots. It’s like the easiest, most comfortable outfit combo imaginable, and I admit I probably post variations of that exact thing on here far too much. But you all have had a break from that all summer, so I feel no guilt in sharing this outfit with you now 🙂

Plum dolman top: Target, $5.98
Black leggings: Target, $4
Cognac tall boots: Christmas gift
Pearl ring: State Fair booth, $5
Tortoiseshell watch: graduation gift
Pearl clip earrings: birthday gift
Braided leather headband: homemade
Outfit total: $14.98

Okay, okay, I know I’m kind of cheating on this one since three of the things I’m wearing were gifts that I happen to know are expensive. But the boots I wore tonight are my favorite, and I did get them as a Christmas gift so technically they count. And honestly, I’m going to be wearing them all the time so I’ve just accepted they’re kind of cheating.
Mostly I just wanted to show off this lovely plum top. I think the color is gorgeous, and the fit is super flattering. I love the little insets of lace on the shoulders, they go all across the back, too, and I think they give it a special touch. I love fluttery wing sleeves, and my favorite thing about this top is that I looked at it and knew immediately is would be long enough to wear with leggings haha. Now, it’s confession time– this top is actually a maternity top hahaha. But good lord please don’t think I mean I am confessing I am pregnant. I am NOT. But I have long had this love/hate relationship with Target’s maternity clothes. It seems like EVERY TIME I go and look through their clearance racks, I’ll pick up things over and over that I think are really cute before realizing they are maternity. It makes me crazy, so I finally just said, I don’t care! And went ahead and bought it for myself; it was on clearance after all. I don’t think you can tell it’s maternity if you don’t know. What about you, did you guess?
I finished this very pretty top off with my old friends, a pair of black leggings, which I have been longing to wear all summer but have simply been far too hot to do so. Naturally, I paired them with my favorite boots, then added some pretty little touches with the pearl earrings, the pearl ring, my watch, and my favorite headband, which I made myself and which perfectly matches my boots. Hopefully you’re as excited for this outfit as I was to put on a pair of leggings tonight!

You Make It Easy, Easy, Easy to Get Away

Standard

Heyyy, everybody.
So. I know it’s been ages and I have been neglecting this blog shamefully, but I have been crazy busy. Also, in the summer in Oklahoma I tend to spend most of my time lounging indoors instead of dressing up and going out, so I haven’t had too many outfits that would even be worth posting. Today, however, I finally roused myself, made an effort, and actually took some pictures for you.
20130809_17205620130809_174947Floral print maxi dress: Ross, $10
Black gladiator sandals: Walmart, $8
Silver headband: Forever 21, $1.50
Silver dangle clips: Claire’s, gift
Fossil watch: Ross, gift
Outfit total: $19.50

Ah, summer, the optimal time for maxi dresses. I only have one other maxi dress (which I have featured on this blog before) and I have been looking for another cute, easy one to wear this summer for ages. I found this a few weeks ago, and instantly fell in love with the print. Red is my favorite color, and I love it paired with black and white. There’s hints of other colors in it as well, like gray and purple. It makes for a very easy to accessorize dress! It’s also convenient because it has built-in padding and you don’t even have to wear a bra. Slightly scandalous, perhaps, but it makes the dress so easy to just throw on.
Today I went for a slightly boho look, with the silver headband and my dangly silver earrings with the leaves and flowers. I paired it with my black gladiator sandals for the finishing touch on a simple, summery look.
As for my watch, technically it qualifies because it was a gift, but I must be honest that it was more expensive than my entire outfit budget! It was a graduation gift from my parents, and I absolutely love it. Sadly, I have freakishly small wrists so I hadn’t been able to wear it since I got it, until finally a few weeks ago I managed to take enough links out  so it would fit. I have been wearing it almost nonstop since, and I really wanted to share it with you because I love it so much!

I love this dress and the whole look, I think it’s perfect for summer while still looking put together– I posed in front of my pool to really get a summery background haha. The maxi can easily be dressed up or down, and I think it was such a steal for only ten bucks! Hopefully you love it as much as me, and I am so glad to be back 🙂
